The cover for the perfumery course textbook at the Natural Perfumery Institute was due for a re-design. I love the new look, shown above, and I hope you do, too.  The cover now cheerfully and correctly illustrates some of the raw materials of perfumery, from roses and vanilla to frankincense, and will be bound into a high-quality paperback. There are some final tweaks being worked on for the back cover, and I have to update a few items inside the book before I have a draft published. The new textbook should be available in a month or less.
I left the image of the beachside bottle full of flowers, ferns, shells and a clock on the cover, a holdover from the past textbook covers. I love the way that image shows the diversity of elements we perfumers use, from onland flora, to oceanic offerings, such as seashells and seaweed, all brewing together with an important element – time.
Now I’d love for you to help me, and maybe win a lovely educational prize in return. I have a survey for potential students, or those who would like to weigh in on a subject regarding studies:
1. Would you prefer a definite start date for studies, such as I had originally for students, with modules starting and ending on a specific date?
2. Would you prefer the “opt-in anytime signup” for studies now in place, and study at your own pace?
Leave an answer by Oct 31, 2014, and be in the random drawing for one of two prizes:
1. A free copy of the new textbook and enrollment in the course with the Independent Study option.
or
2. If you’re currently a student, once your course is completed, you’ll receive a $200 discount off the tuition of the next level of study.
Remember, leave a comment to be in the drawing. You can read more about the Independent Study option at http://PerfumeClasses.com Thank you for your feedback!

Hi, would prefer the opt-in anytime
Opt-in anytime would work the best for me 🙂 Thank You!
I would like the opt in any time option, as it’s just better for me! Love the cover artwork!
I find that with my attention span if there isn’t a set deadline I flounder about and never accomplish anything, but given the schedule of my life I would prefer the opt in
Opt in schedule
I love the cover! Just beautiful. I’d prefer the opt in anytime option to study at my own pace. I’ve been making botanical perfumes for almost 2 years, so am a beginner. But I’m motivated and so going at my own pace would work best for me.
Opps – forgot to subscribe to comments so I’m doing it now. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
Definite start date. Thanks for the drawing!
I would prefer a beginning start date to end timeline. To keep on task and continue along every day or the once a week class. Thanks for this exciting offer!
Definite start date. Thanks for the draw!
Anya, I love the new cover — it is happy and graceful and has a lot of clarity. Beautiful.
I would also love to be able to do your course, and have wanted this for years now. The financial demands of being a single mother have not allowed this. It would be my good fortune to win a course of independent study with you.
MY ANSWER:
OPT IN ANYTIME SIGN UP
Flexibility is key in being able to study.
Thanks Anya, best wishes to you.

I like “the opt in anytime” option, but having a definite closing date once the cours has started would keep people like me on track. Hope this helps!
Opt in anytime is the best!
I prefer “opt in” because life happens and sometimes things are out
of our control. I recently experienced that first hand when My Partner
was in need of Major Surgery. I was in the Middle of classes & had to
stop – I’m back & thankfully had the opportunity to “opt in”.
I would agree with Tiffany, a finishing date would be a good idea!
Blessings
i think I would prefer the structure and support of a definite start and end date.
Congratulations on all the amazing work you’ve done lately! Wow! Opt-in anytime works for me 🙂
i like the idea of an opt in version as it is more flexible
I prefer the opt in option.
The cover art is beautiful! I think the opt in any time option is best because of it’s flexibility.
I would prefer the opt-in option but with a set date to complete the course (ie one year). That way stay committed but at own pace. Sounds exciting with new textbook!!
Opt in any time. Love the new cover!
Dear Anya,
I Am just embarking on my quest to become a perfumer. I Would be open to either of the two. I have so much to learn.
I like the opt in any time option. Looks like a great course!
I like the opt in option. Looks like a great course!
With today’s lifestyle, I believe the Opt In selection is best.
I prefer the opt in at anytime (option 2). I would love to take this course and have the textbook to study!
I love the new cover design, it’s clear and colorful and elegant and really tells the story. As my schedule is irregular, with several time-takers affecting it, I would definitely prefer an “opt-in” arrangement. It would give me the chance to really learn the material, at my own speed. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. You have so much wonderful information to impart!
I hope my post is chosen! Thank you!!
I would prefer the opt-in anytime option, since my schedule can be pretty busy at times. I think the opt-in option would be more convenient.
I would definitely prefer the Opt-in because Life happens. The new cover art is beautifully perfect, and I am on pins and needles waiting for the release of “Perfume From Your Garden!”
Wow, that book cover is a knockout! I love that the beach stayed because one of the most sublime scents on earth is found there (by the lucky few).
All things being equal, I too, like so many others, would prefer OPT-IN.
Thanks for the drawing!
Love your new cover Anya,
I’ve been making perfumes for a while now and I like the way that I could opt-in at any time to partake in your course. With my current business commitments I have limited time and find it best to schedule one day a week or fortnight on my perfume making which includes study and exploring more about perfumery as I develop new fragrances to integrate it into my product ranges. This is a very slow method, but I find my learning is amplified with my need to develop this area of my business. I love being able to spend time on perfumery studies and look forward to the times when I can as I find it very relaxing as I am taken to other worlds. For me I see it is a long term ongoing study ever evolving during my lifetime.
With life seemingly demanding so much time, I would want the opt-in study plan.
Hi Anya,
I would prefer the opt in option.
Thanks for all that you do, particularly the Yahoo Group,
longtime lurker,
rick
I prefer opt in anytime. I love the cover.

My preference would be #2, opt in anytime. That is the best prize ever!
I think the cover is very nice. I would prefer the opt-in option. Thank you.
I would prefer the Opt- in option. Thank you!
I think it would better to have definite start and end dates so that you can’t avoid keeping up with the modules of the course, like I have!

I think a blend of the two might be a good idea: opt-in at any time, but have a specific amount of time to complete the course/work. This way it’s a flexible system that works in real life for people, but they are compelled to work on it and not let it slide.
The opt-in anytime option; it would be easier to sign in at any time and study at our own pace, because that would make part-time working and part-time studying a lot more convenient. : )
I would definitely prefer studying at my own pace and doing an opt-in anytime option. As a busy working mom who would LOVE to study perfumery, this would be the most peaceful and enjoyable way to go about it ~and be driven by natural passion and customized to the unqiue natural ebb and flow of my life.
The new cover is absolutely magical!
I do love the cover and the concepts contained therein! I so look forward to the new book chocked full of wonderful information.
I like the idea of the anytime enrollment in studies as I’m never sure when or if I will be able to join (even though I would dearly love to yesterday). Love, love, love your blog and all the good shared information!!
Cheers,
anna
I think an opt-in signup where a student can start any time, but with a finish date. For example, a person can start when they want but must finish the course within six months.
I like the cover of the book but would change it to remove the border of flowers on the bottom and top. I think, move the flowers to cover the back of the book in such a way that any writing is clearly visible. On the front, the picture of the bottle should cover most of the area with the title on top and author’s name across the bottom. The inset with the bottle and beach scene is absolutely gorgeous.
I think I would prefer the opt-in anytime option, but with some sort of time limit as well. I would want to get it done within some kind of reasonable time frame, but the flexibility would be great with my hectic schedule.
I would prefer the opt-in sign up. To me flexibility is key to learning the art of natural perfume construction. Thanks so much Anya. Fragrant hugs!
I would prefer an opt-in anytime option. There’s nothing sadder than finding out about a class just after the enrollment closed. 🙂
I would prefer the opt-in anytime option. That way I can better manage my time toward learning.
Have been following your journey of this book-making on fb. I have a collection of 100 pages of information regarding perfume-making; not in a particular order, just copy/pasted. Every time I found something interesting on the method, ingredients, aromas etc I saved it. I hope, someday will be one of your students.
I spent 5 minutes looking @ the book cover, analyzing every detail. It is fascinating the way that is designed. The bottle- touching the land, the sea & reaching the sky. And the aroma mixed with the clouds. Very meaningful!!!
I would prefer an opt-in-option please. Thanks!
I would prefer an opt-in anytime option. I’ve got a lot going on in my life. Slow times are usually unanticipated. It would be great to have the option to join a course when I can!
Hi! I’m new here and unsure whether I have the right to an opinion, or if I could ever be a student, but if all of the above were true, I’d say definitely “anytime” option. And, your book cover is beautiful! Thank you!
I would prefer an opt-in
The opt-in anytime option would be ideal for me.
opt- in would work best for me.
For me, it works best to have definite starting and ending times for online courses, or else they tend to slip down my priority list and never get completed. That being said, it might be helpful to have several start dates with a small group of students starting each time, so that they can communicate with each other as they study and learn. Thanks for all the great information and pictures! ~Susan
Oh how lovely! I am on a journey through aromatherapy right now and am leaning towards perfumery. I would love to win a copy of your gorgeous book and the chance to be a student.
I do find that with studies – it is more beneficial to have organized groups that can relate to each other online, compare notes and assignments. I have found that helpful thus far on my educational journey!
Blessings,
Katherine
Was the winner announced?
I would vote for the opt in anytime if you were to incorporate some of your lessons using Skype.
