I was wondering if you could share any additional tips, tricks, basic instructions, or uses for the ultrasonic cleaners in perfumery.
I have read via your blog, the yahoo groups, and our textbook about using it for ultrasonic extracts (kind of like a tincture) as well as for aging perfumes and for aging specific oils like Patchouli. I was hoping for a little more info about these things as an ultrasonic cleaner is at the top of my wish list for the holidays, right next to the filtration kit with the buchner funnel!
As a side note, do you know anything about their application for medicinal tinctures by chance?
Also, can the bonus modules from the course be purchased individually, as I hear you have a wealth of information on ultrasonics in the bonus module.
The UltraExtract processes are very detailed and for the different goals very wordy, another way of saying it’s too huge of a subject for a quick Ask the Perfumer Sunday. For instance, Boxgasm took me days to write as I had to compile so much information and images. I don’t sell the bonus modules or any modules from the course separately, they’re part of the educational experience and bundled as such for the online student. If somebody told you there is a wealth of info on ultrasonics (UltraExtract) in the bonus module, they’re fibbing, because it isn’t up yet, since I don’t have enough students who have purchased an ultrasonic (I don’t sell them) to make a workshop with accompanying workbook feasible yet.
Thanks for the response. I was assuming some of the discussions, like aging perfume posted by einsof, were a result of the class module, so that was my faulty assumption.
Since the ultrasonics is a really big topic, maybe you can answer a shorter question for me? How much harm can you do experimenting with the ultrasonic for things like aging perfumes or individual oils? Is it best to work with small and/or diluted amounts so as not to ruin those wonderful materials, or is it pretty harmless to play around?
Don’t use heat. Make sure the water bath comes up at least half way on the jar with the aromatics in it. Keep good notes when you evaluate the scent after each run. Most machines have a half hour timer and you may do many repeat sonics to get the result you want. HTH.
